Most people who participate in football want to gain solid weight and strength. It is obvious that a stronger athlete is a better athlete and this applies for football as well. So any weight gain program should attempt to increase the size and the strength of the entire body: We want speed and strength.
In football a weight training program should hit these basic muscle groups: the shoulder girdle, the lower and upper back , the legs and the calves. These muscle groups when developed with hyperplasia workouts will make the football player faster and stronger -much like a mac truck. he/ she will be unstoppable.
The smaller body parts such as the arms , abdominal's and forearms are worked indirectly through basic mass building exercises and not directly. This is to conserve energy that can be best used in the muscle growth process.
There are some minor differences in how a program should be designed to serve different positions on the field. The defensive line man and the quarter back all have slightly different needs and yet they would both benefit from a different football training program , but the strength training program would essentially be the same.

There are a few misconceptions(and practices that actually hinder muscle growth) when training for football.
1. most football players use a conventional strength training program that sees them use a split routine where they work their bodies , 2 days on , one day off. That is Monday , tuesday rest on wednesday , train thursday and friday and to make things worse they train using the "cycling approach", they alternate a light day with a medium day and a heavy day.
This ensures that only the genetically
gifted or those under steroid s can succeed in making the team ,( as far as
strength and size is concerned) .
If you are currently being ignored and not allowed on the team because you are"high
risk " to injury , you will develop bigger muscles and strength if you
follow this system i am about to reveal to you.
2. The secound misconception
is that you must eat to get big . This is partly true. You can stimulate 3-5
pounds of muscle a workout , that allows you to consume 3000 above your BMR
between workouts. If you consume more calories than this , it will be excreted
or deposited as body fat. And fact is a "fat player" is slower and
heavier. Fat will make you look big but you will not have the speed , power
and function needed to play the game . point is eat enough and no more. Do not
follow the "eat big , to get big " philosophy-for you will soon look
like Homer simpson.
Muscle mass for footballers
The only difference between eating for a bodybuilder and a footballer is this: you need to consume 500-600 calories above BMR on a daily basis and not 200-300 as i would suggest for a bodybuilder, since you can afford the little bulk and body fat.
