It's all fine and dandy to use heavy barbell curls and barbell preacher curl for a solid bicep workout. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact you can make huge gains from them. But really curling dumbbells not only offers solid size but allows solid range of motion.

It is also a misconception to think you cannot achieve mass or strength gains with dumbbells. It is a unilateral movement. But dumbbells force each hand to strive for it self .it also help build stabilizer muscles (muscles in charge of balancing weights etc).

Dumbbells make you lift with equal force. It makes cheating extremely hard. Using barbells, one hand can sometime push for the other. But with dumbbells in your bicep workout each hand must pull its weight. Now it's true you cannot lift the same amount of weights you would with a barbell but dumbbells force the right pressure on the right spot and that’s what you need if you're looking to make serious gains.

There will come a point when you can no longer hold on to really heavy weights. This is due to firearm weakness. Or maybe the difference between your bicep strength and forearm strength is too great. So eliminate this add in some dumbbell wrist curls to your bicep workout. Work them with palms up and palms down to fully hit the forearms.

Keep in mind that the heavier the weights you can hold on to, the heaver the weights you can curl. And lifting heavy means more muscle fiber breakdown. Combine proper rest and diet with a killer bicep workout and you got a recipe for big arms.

One more thing you might want to pay attention to is the brachialis muscle. This muscle lies under the bicep. Making this muscle grow pushes the bicep up and makes it look bigger. Make sure to also hit this muscle by performing curls with a reverse grip meaning with your palms facing down

Follow these guidelines to build a killer bicep workout and to build some killer biceps
